I feel it has taken me a while to learn who I am as an artist. I began painting when I was a teen and continued into early adulthood. I then took a 20 year hiatus to raise a family and returned to painting closer to retirement. Learning how to express myself again took some time. My painting initially lacked focus, but just moving the paint on canvas was ... fun!. When I moved to Canada I had the opportunity to explore who I am as an artist and I now feel I am able to connect with my life experiences in a more meaningful way.
I went to school for architecture in California and continue to enjoy the design and drafting process. I find inspiration in geometrical patterns and shades found in the landscapes of the American Southwest. The burnt sienna and red oxide of the stone monoliths of Monument Valley call to me. The minerals, ores and stones in such a varied array of colour and pattern offer an endless source of ideas to express on canvas.
